Policy for Donation of Books/Materials

 

Due to limited space for collection growth and no longer maintaining an on-going book sale, Berkeley Heights will accept only book donations that have been discussed in advance with the Library Director accepts donations of books and other media formats in good condition.  Donated items may be added to the collection, sold to benefit BHPL, donated to other organizations, or discarded.

 

Items which will be considered:  Donate:

New hardcover and paperback books in good condition, less than 5 years old

CDs and DVDs in good condition with original packaging

Materials relating to Berkeley Heights, Union County, New Jersey

 

Items accepted for donation must be delivered during hours the Library is open.

 

Do Not Donate:

Books in poor condition, yellowing, moldy, mildewed, or water damaged

Condensed books

Encyclopedias or other reference sets

Textbooks (any level)

Video cassettes, CD Rom, video games

 

Magazines less than 2 years old can be placed in the Magazine Exchange in the Upper Level Lobby

 

Bring donations inside the building, upper or lower level.  Staff cannot assist in carrying books.  Do not place donations by the outside doors during hours BHPL is closed.

 

If you would like a receipt, give your name, address and number/type of materials donated to a staff member.  An acknowledgment will be sent for tax purposes, but BHPL staff cannot assign a value.

 

Recycling materials that cannot be used or sold is a time consuming activity for BHPL staff.  Please follow these guidelines and recycle unsuitable material through your home recycling service.
