Download the OverDrive Media Console

Go to www.elibrarynj.com
On the left side of the page under Getting Started, click Overdrive Media Console.
Select Mac or Windows depending on which one you have.
Click the Download Now button and install the Overdrive Media Console.

Check Out an Audiobook

Open your Internet browser and go to elibrarynj.com
Find a book you want to download.  You can search by author or title, or browse by the type of book (fiction, nonfiction, etc.).
If you have a Mac computer or a Kindle, you can only use audiobooks in MP3 format – make sure the “MP3” icon is not grayed out. To browse available MP3 audiobooks, click Advanced Search, limit the format to “MP3” and check “Only show titles with copies available”.

If the book is currently checked out:
Click “Place a Hold”.
Select Berkeley Heights Public Library from the drop down menu
Type in your library barcode number without any spaces.
Click Login.
Type your email address in each box.
Click “Place Hold”.
You will receive an email when the selected title becomes available for checkout. Once you receive the email, you will have 3 days to check out the selected title.
Once you have received the email that says the title is in, go to eLibraryNJ.com
Click on My Account.
Log in with the name of your library and your library card number.
Click on My Holds.
Follow the steps below:

If the book is available:
Click Add to Cart.
Click Proceed to Checkout.
Click on Confirm Checkout.

Download the Audiobook

Click the “Download” button next to the book you want to download.
Click OK or Next until the book is finished downloading in the Overdrive Media Console window.
Windows XP users: If you get an error message saying that you need the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade, click Cancel. In the Overdrive Media Console window, click Tools, then Windows Media Player Security Upgrade. Click I accept, Next, Next, then Finish. Click OK. Go back to the ListenNJ window in your Internet browser and click Download under the picture of the book’s cover. Click OK.

Transfer the Audiobook

To transfer the book to an iPod, go into iTunes, plug your iPod into the computer and click on “iPod” under Devices on the left side of the page. Under the Summary tab, check the box next to Manually Manage Music.  Click Apply at the bottom of the page. In the Overdrive Media Console, click on the book you want. Then click Transfer and follow the prompts.  Your book will appear on your iPod listed under Music > Songs.

To transfer the book to an MP3 player other than an iPod, plug your player into your computer. In the Overdrive Media Console, click on the book that you want.  Click Transfer and follow the prompts.

To transfer an audiobook to a Kindle, plug your Kindle into your computer using a USB cable. Open up the Overdrive Media Console and click on the audiobook you wish to transfer. Click Transfer. Then, browse to the Kindle drive on your computer using “Computer” (Windows 7) or “My Computer” (Windows XP). Copy and paste the audiobook files in the Kindle drive to the “Audible” folder, also on the Kindle drive. The audiobook tracks are located on regular Kindles at Home.  The audiobooks on a Kindle Fire are located on the Music tab.

eLibraryNJ Checkout Policy

You may have a maximum of 5 titles checked out at one time.
Audiobooks check out for 7 or 10 days, your choice. You can’t return a book early.  Despite the stated checkout period, audiobooks stay on an iPod indefinitely, until you delete them from iTunes and sync your iPod.
