First Time Only: Sign Up for an Adobe ID:

Go to Adobe.com and click on Sign In in the top right corner.
Click “Create a New Account”.
Sign up for a free Adobe ID.

First Time Only: Download the Overdrive Media Console App:

Go to the App Store or Android Market. (For a Blackberry or Windows Phone 7, go to elibrarynj.com, and tap the Overdrive Media Console button.)
Search for Overdrive Media Console. (On Apple devices, if you don’t see a search box, tap the “Featured” icon at the bottom of the screen. The search box will be at top right.)
Tap the “FREE” button next to the Overdrive Media Console app (there is one for iPhones and one for iPads).
Tap the green “INSTALL” button.
Type in your Apple password if prompted.

Check Out an eBook:

Open the Overdrive app by tapping on its icon. (The first time you open the Overdrive app, it will ask you to authorize your device with an Adobe ID. Use the Adobe ID and password you signed up for in the first step.)
Tap “Get Books” at the top of the screen, tap “Add a Library”, type in 07922, tap Search, tap Berkeley Heights Public Library, tap Infolink-ListenNJ.
Search for a particular book or browse the eBooks shown on the screen.

To find a book that is currently available:
Sign in (this will allow you to see books reserved for BH residents)
Tap Browse.
Check the box “Only show titles with copies available” and click the Submit button, leaving the Search box blank.

Tap on the title or cover of the book that you want to check out.
Tap “Add to cart”, then “Proceed to Checkout”. If the book is not available, you will see “Place Hold” instead of “Add to Cart”.
If you tapped “Place a Hold”, you will receive an email when it is your turn to check out the book. Then you will go to eLibraryNJ.com, tap My Digital Account, log in, go to My Holds, tap Add to cart and continue with the instructions below.
If prompted to log in, select Berkeley Heights Public Library and type in the barcode number on the back of your library card without any spaces. Tap Login.
Select your lending period (7, 10 or 14 days) and tap Confirm Checkout.
Tap Download under the picture of the book’s cover. Tap Open.

Read an eBook in the Overdrive App:

The cover of the eBook will appear in the Overdrive app above the audiobook titled “Welcome to Overdrive”. (Or, if you did not authorize your device with an Adobe ID when you first opened the app, you will be prompted again now.)
Tap the cover of the book to begin reading. (Or tap the arrow to the right of the book’s title. Then tap Navigation and select your starting point.)
To go back to the list of eBooks you have downloaded, tap the arrow in the top left corner. If you do not see an arrow in the top left corner, tap the page and it should appear.

Delete an eBook from the Overdrive App:

Go to the page that lists all of your eBook downloads.
Tap the “Edit” button at top left.
Tap the red symbol to the left of the book.
Tap the “Delete” button that appears at far right.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can have a maximum of 5 titles checked out at one time.
eBooks check out for 7, 10 or 14 days. You choose the checkout period when you check out the book.
You will never be charged an overdue fine.
If a book expires before you have finished, delete it in the app, then tap “Get Books” and check it out again at eLibraryNJ.com.
If you lose your library card and are assigned a new barcode number when it is replaced, stop by the reference desk. We can ask Overdrive to move your account to the new barcode number.
