| Parents are
advised to read this statement, posted by the F.B.I.,
concerning the use of the Internet by children. A similar
statement, Internet Safety Tips
for Kids, is also available for children, K - 5th grade, to
read. For information on sites designed specifically for
children and search engines which offer filtering, take a look at Safekids and TekMom. A group
of Internet companies and public service organizations created GetNetWise to provide parents
and children with more Internet safety tips and links to family and
age-appropriate sites. Get Cyber
Savvy from the Direct Marketing Association gives examples of
online situations which parents can discuss with children in advance
to establish rules and guidelines. Parenting
Online and NetSmartz
Workshop are also sources of good basic information for parents
dealing with cyber space. SurfNet Kids is another good
example. The American
Library Association offers safety rules and links to sites
created specifically for young Internet
users. |
